How to use the Mines calculator

  1. Mines: the number of mines you select on Stake before the round (1 to 24).
  2. Diamonds: how many safe tiles you want to reveal before cashing out. Mines plus diamonds can never exceed 25.
  3. Bet amount: optional. Add it to see the win amount and profit in your coin, with up to 8 decimals for crypto.

The Stake Mines formula

A Mines round is a sequence of picks without replacement. With m mines on a 25-tile board, the probability of revealing d diamonds in a row is:

P(win) = C(25 − m, d) / C(25, d)
Multiplier = 0.99 / P(win)

For example, with 3 mines and 5 diamonds the probability is 49.57%, so the multiplier is 0.99 / 0.4957 = 2.00x. With 1 mine and 24 diamonds (clearing the whole board) the chance is exactly 4% and the multiplier is 24.75x.

Reading the results like a strategist

  • Same edge, different variance. 1 mine with 5 diamonds pays 1.24x at 80% odds. 10 mines with 3 diamonds pays 5.00x at 19.78% odds. Both lose 1% on average; the second just swings much harder.
  • Recovery cost grows fast at low multipliers. At 1.24x you need a 416.67% increase on loss to recover with one win. That is why low-risk Mines setups and martingale rarely mix.
  • Size the bet first. Before any progression, check how many losses in a row you can afford with the loss streak calculator.

Stake Mines Calculator: FAQ

How is the Stake Mines multiplier calculated?

The multiplier is 0.99 divided by the probability of revealing all your chosen diamonds without hitting a mine. That probability is C(25 − mines, diamonds) / C(25, diamonds). The 0.99 factor is Stake's 1% house edge, so the game returns 99% over the long run.

What are the odds of 3 mines and 5 diamonds?

With 3 mines, the chance of revealing 5 diamonds in a row is about 49.57%, and the multiplier is 2.00x. It is the Mines equivalent of a 49.5% dice roll at 2x.

What is the best number of mines to play?

No mine count is better in expected value: every combination returns 99% because the house edge is the same. Fewer mines give smaller, more frequent wins; more mines give rare, large wins. Choose based on how much variance your bankroll can take.

What does 'minimum increase on loss' mean?

It is the percentage you must raise the bet after a loss so that the next win recovers the previous loss. It equals 100 / (multiplier − 1). At 2.00x it is 100%, which is a classic martingale.

Why does my result show an error?

Mines and diamonds must be whole numbers of at least 1, mines cannot exceed 24 and mines plus diamonds cannot exceed the 25 tiles on the board.
